No amount of internet discourse will make me change my mind that slash is so popular because the majority of writers and readers like hot men.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think that's the whole story but it's definitely the single biggest part of the answer.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
This is pretty much the main reason, which is fine, most people ship characters they think are hot together.

That just seems really obvious to me.

Men are hot. What if we had.... TWO MEN!!

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
ngl, as a very cringey fandom-obsessed high schooler, I once tried describing the appeal of slash to a teenage boy a few years older than me as being akin to two-in-one shampoo/conditioner.

Because I mean, what's better than one man? TWO MEN.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
SOME men are hot. Not all.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Why.... why would you feel the need to say that? Like, that's got nothing to do with anything. Are you okay?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
at least they are not atacking other anons. What's wrong with you?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing's wrong with me. I'm concerned about someone who would feel compelled to respond to someone saying "men are hot" with "SOME men". Mentally well people don't do that.

"Black lives matter." "SOME black lives matter"
"Pasta is delicious." "SOME pasta is delicious"

???? Such a strange thing to say.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
mentally well people sroll by
and don't use ???
no one says some, they say all lives matter.
are bored people mentally well? idk.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
If your idea of fun to get rid of boredom is to say that only some men are hot, then you must be REALLY bored. Using specific notations does not connotate an issue. Saying something completely nonsensical does.

I am genuinely concerned for you, anon. You seem to be having a tough time with your brain.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you a sweetie anon? Fake cutesy words and fake concern. I mean just looking at the comments timeline and grammar, you're going through the comments, leaving nasty replies.

Mental illness is not a curse, and to use it as such is a looser jerk move.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're definitely getting me confused with someone else. Looking at the comments and grammar I would say you're the one being nasty everywhere. Things not going so well at home? Maybe some anger management sessions?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)

Even if it's not the only reason, it's an obvious enough reason that any discourse which ignores it is wasting everyone's time.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-27 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I love when people try to analyze it and do think there are merits to various interpretations... but yeah, in the end it boils down to being attracted to men.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-28 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's why I like slash.

I have female friends and love them. I love many female characters.

Two hot guys rubbing dicks is hot. The end.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
As a (female) slasher, yep, this is the main reason. I want to read fanfiction and look at fanart about hot men doing sexy things!

The funniest thing to me about this secret is the secretmaker's bizarre assumption that people writing m/m are doing so out of genuine belief that the characters are already in a romantic relationship. Have they... ever spoken to a slash shipper? Like, ever? Or even a het shipper? Pretty sure they have not!

Doubtless there's some fans out there who only write m/m when it's slapped down on the table in front of them by the source, but those people are a tiny minority. The far larger portion of m/m fandom is reinventing canon, not interpreting it. They aren't confused about what they're seeing. They're creating what they wanted to see and didn't. If this wasn't true, half the most popular m/m ships out there wouldn't exist. There is no "misinterpreting" the "caring" between characters when people ship Harry Potter/Severus Snape! They loathe each other. Wincest shippers aren't "confused" about the "platonic bond" between Dean and Sam Winchester! They're siblings. Slashers are looking at the canon and thinking, You know what would be hot? If they felt that way about each other and also fell in love.

I can't even touch the rabid misogyny involved in 'women don't have close friendships' or 'women only see each other as competition for men,' but secretmaker, if you're reading this post I really think you ought to see a therapist. That's not healthy and it's definitely not a "normal" thing most women feel.
