Yeah, this is exactly my issue. I'm terrible at replaying games so I was so jazzed that I actually liked me second run.... only to maybe have to replay half of it AGAIN or just cut my losses and finish it romance-less.
And it would be annoying as well if it was because I did something wrong but I didn't! It's not even my fault and that makes it worse.
Funnily enough, I romanced Astarion during my first run as well and, being a noob, I must have missed a TON of his content but the romance played out just fine. This time, I did all the stuff I missed and had all the right cutscenes but the game apparently never registered his romance as advanced during act 2 even though it was and I only found out after Cazador. Joy.

Ooof, yeah that sucks because you'd have missed out on a lot of stuff for him. Gosh it sucks that it never seemed to fire because that far in I wouldn't restart either, I'd just finish it and make a new game.

I'm sorry it's not worked out for you OP. :(
