The fact that I've read academic works on slash makes it clear that OP has not, or if they have, they cherry-picked exceptions from the works.

Of course tey cherry picked it and made a secret out of. The thing is it's always been in the academic works as a factor of slash popularity. What do you want, an essay with all the factors?
