Yeah the wank in the Voltron fandom was absolutely nuts, but it wasn't the cause of the current fandom climate by any means, and it wasn't started by one single group of shippers. Like Klance shippers just didn't have the power to do that? And for all that they had toxic fans they also had chill ones who just liked their ship and didn't get into the fandom bullshit.

I'm never keen on groups tarring the 'other' group with the same brush as if every subgroup is a monolith, it's reductive and stupid. But then ship-wars are reductive and stupid, so I guess it fits the mentality. Sadly the reality is that sometimes people just aren't nice and no group is immune from having assholes.

Honestly, one of my biggest fandom red flags is when someone acts like their faction is immune from having assholes. If they can't see or admit the possibility that there's bad behavior, odds are that they are participating in it.
