This makes me sad.

OOOF. Yeah, that's rough, buddy. I think I'm about the same way tho. Like, sure there's no guarantee that the younger person will outlive the older but statistically it seems likely. :\

crying in 'my age gap ship had the younger character die suddenly'

I get it for my Longmire ship. :/

But with Vic being a cop, she could go first. Also :/ because Walt is a widower. :/

Ah, well see, I'm only in age gap pairings for the hot boning, not long term relationship/romance so no worries about who dies first!

This is why my favorite fandom to have age gaps fics has in-canon possibility of immortality and/or reincarnation.

If you bring in reincarnation, it can go from sad to incredibly awkward.

You could check out the canon couple of Shelly and Holling in Northern Exposure for subversion of this - though Holling is at least 40 years older than Shelly, he fears that he will outlive her, since the men in his family tend to live well past 100 and spend their final years as heartbroken widowers.

Not just outliving your partner, but having to watch them deteriorate before death. Like, a 50 year old taking care of an 80 year old spouse is rough. Dementia is a bitch.

I'd never tell real people how to live their lives but in fiction it is set up for some heart break.
