What can I say, fandom is full of petty bullies like that. You see the same thing happening again and again here on FS, especially with the antis.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are antis. Anyone who assigns moral value to fictional things is already past the biggest step to becoming an anti.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems to me the OP is the real anti, they are the ones hating on people liking pairings.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're lost, it's okay. You can admit it.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Go back and read the secret again. You missed... a lot.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, the fun one for me is when the antis who morally posture because their fave doesn't do X or Y, then goes into very casual discrimination defending they're fave…

Like…I don't know shitting on a singer for lip-syncing, swearing that their fave would never (they do), then comparing mental illness to illiteracy and at worst to mental disability so severe they make gifs of the first singer in a helmet.

And that's why kids I'm no longer a Christina Aguilera fan. Sure, none of her music post Back to Basics sparks anything in me, but the way some of her fans treat Britney is so disgusting I would never want to associate with people like that.

If you need to be a piece of shit to boost up your fave, you're doing it wrong.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah some people in fandom are like this and have always been like this. I don't understand it personally, I have characters I dislike but I don't judge people that like them, I just stay away from fan-spaces of their because there's no point in me taking part?

But some people have to make their dislike everyone else's problem. Funnily I don't tend to end up disliking the character or ship of fans like this, I just dislike the fans because they're the ones being assholes. The ship/character is just the unfortunate receptacle of their attention.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
When that happens, I just assume those fans are very young. At least I hope that's the reason for their behavior. Yikes.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is definitely more common among young fans, but it absolutely happens in the 40+ set too. I am 40+ and have seen fans my age carrying on like this - I can't believe they haven't learned don't like don't read yet!

Kamala's parents were a surprise gem in both the show and The Marvels movie. I love them.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. What I have seen are some groups of fans AVIDLY hating on characters who are sometimes female characters who just basically...exist, and get in the way of their ship. I'm okay with shitting on these weirdo fans. I remember some who had hate comms for characters and purposefully wrote hatefic. Or they talk about how much they hate the character literally all the time. Like, you sure give Castiel a lot of headspace, you odd fuck.

When I hate a character, I keep my trap shut so I don't harsh other fans' enjoyment, personally. Life's too short to waste time making that much effort to hate a character.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That happens sometimes, but if they're doing it in their own spaces, I just ignore it. Ditto if it's in a dedicated thread for that purpose

I've also seen plenty of the opposite, where rabid fans of a character will attack anyone who doesn't love their fave as much as they do, doesn't find their fave interesting or just don't ship said fave the way the stans want them shipped. There have been plenty of times where where those fans will take any criticism or disagreement about their fave as a personal attack on themselves and get very mean and personally insulting towards anyone who doesn't agree with them. Thus, no one is ever allowed to talk about why they might not 100% adore that character, especially if that character is a fandom darling.

The bad behavior really does go both ways, and toxic positivity and Cult of Nice can be just a

as awful as constant negativity. I'm saying this as someone who has been on the receiving end of both. Yes, the negativity can get to be too much, but you also need to let people vent occasionally.

Also, bad behavior on the part of fans of something does often put people off of it, especially when those fans try to control what other fans can or can't do or say. That's how people work sometimes. The problem isn't whether people like something or not for me, it's the controlling behavior and bullying. And if I have enough bad experiences with fans of something, well, that thing can become associated with those fans' behavior in my mind. And once that happens, it takes a long time for those associations to fade.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-06 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT I'm thinking of someone in one fandom specifically who will post about others praising a character and call them names, etc. Like they can't abide champions of the character who love them.

It's a bear-poking situation, because they denigrate the fans and not just the character.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I challenge everyone who sees a girl bashing a female character for existing to ignore her and go find a guy bashing a female character for existing to tell off instead. Guys who bash female characters are 100 times more disgusting about it, and they get away with it because in their fandom spaces they're surrounded by nobody but likeminded guys.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Both are bad anon and it doesn't become magically 'less bad' because a woman is doing it. I'll shit on both men and women doing that shit, in fandom there's more women so I'm going to be complaining about other women who do it more because that's what I'm seeing more of. The chuds invading every single YT video about a female character they hate? Just as bad, I shit on them too.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That's not a particularly odd viewpoint, honestly. The fans of "Good Characters" doing this comes across as hypocritical and sad (in the emotional sense and in the pathetic sense), and I think it's kind of a known phenomenon.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-07 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Try disliking a character in a community the mod likes. Now that's the worst. It's gotten banned at least once and warned twice.
