OP here.

No offense, but, you got everything wrong about what I was trying to say. So, here's me clearing some things up.

I am not really looking for fandom to join just so I can join. I have a few interests where I am incredibly invested in and I am interested in actually joining instead of looking for theories or browsing fics as a complete lurker because I wanna talk about it and also meet new like-minded people.

The first reason why am I so indecisive is because I have a lot of fandoms and some grievances about joining it (basically I am kinda intimidated). For example, I am very invested in the story and the characters of a very popular game. I really don't want to join it because the fandom is filled with chuds who would rather "gatekeep" their fandom instead of being accepting to everyone else. Every other interest is fair game because they are nowhere near that bad as that fandom, but there is the looming impression I have because of discourse. After all, to join something, you need to choose what to join first, right?

The other reason why I have decided to post the secret is because I clearly have no clue which site is the de facto fandom spot. I don't know what to start with. It has been YEARS since I have last interacted with fandom in general and I can feel a lot of things have been changed since then.

Twitter, ever since the take over, has been largely changed for worse and there were reports of more homophobic, transphobic people and even downright neo-nazis posting freely. I generally don't feel that safe to be in that platform for that reason and also being a ticking time bomb.

Discord is a messaging platform. It is not remotely good for "generalized" communities (big servers) and based on my experience, anytime I would join, I would get overshadowed by other people. I consider smaller servers (from my experience) to be more or less fine, but I need to find them.

There is Tumblr, but I clearly do not know the state of the site as of late. The fandom sizes on Tumblr vary like crazy. A fandom can have a large Tumblr presence, while the other can have a very very tiny presence there.

I hope some things are cleared up as I think the wording in my secrets might not have been as good as I initially thought.

I'm in a specific fandom, it's like, medium-sized, and I've seen how people are about it on Reddit (absolutely awful. They're sort of pedantic) and Tumblr (which is mostly gushing and making gifsets at length). There's no Twitter fandom to speak of, for some odd reason. The Tumblr fandom has extended into a Discord that's pretty active but not AGGRESSIVELY active the way some fandom discords I've been in have been, and it's the first REALLY GOOD fandom experience I've had in about 3 years.

Sidenote: My fandom friends have a personal discord that I'm in, but they're all into this one fandom I am REALLY not into, so the discord has turned into gushing about the thing I have zero interest in and zero knowledge of while I'm in *my* fandom, and I really felt that part of the secret.

I am relieved I am not the only one who feels that! Although for me, it's more like everyone is if anything mostly into the same thing (with some new interests that I am not really interested haha), while I completely lost interest and moved onto something else. Like, it's 180.

Anyway, may I know which fandom were you talking about? It could be one of the fandoms I was thinking about joining!
