I mean I guess? But you are just really set on a super depressing world view where you have no control and no hope, and I'm just saying its not necessarily the Truth.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It is the Truth, especially for people with disabilities.

The stats bear out that we're in trouble, as a country. Sure, there are going to be wildly varying pockets of places where it's hunky dory, and places where it's soul crushing. That's why stats are important. National stats show that stress is up, burnout is up, suicide is up, homelessness is up. These are facts. What we do with those facts and how we deal with them are what is important.

People need to vote. Because as individuals we literally don't have any control. I reduce my hours, and we end up going hungry. I stop working, and we end up homeless. I keep working, and I continue on as I have been, getting more and more tired as the burnout and stress keep piling on. The only solution is more government aid, a redesign of American society, or both. Maybe an unknown rich relative who dies and leaves me everything (not holding my breath on any of these).

I actually moved from a job where I had to bribe myself to even get out of bed to a job that I enjoy doing. I'm still fucking tired all the time because having to work full time to survive, regardless of what the work is, and then having to do the chores of actually living is unsustainable.

Telling me to find a new job is just mocking at this point.

I am deeply sympathetic for your struggles, and I hope that you find a happier way to live. And I don't want to dismiss the real, serious problems that exist with the American economic order. But your perception of the American socioeconomic system isn't the reality, it isn't The Truth.

Re: Comment OP

You seem to enjoy complaining.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I would have been perfectly fine with my comment as is. But here's the thing. Read my comment again, and then read the one two comments under the thread. They're basically the same comment. Yet I get the victim blaming? "You need to change your job" Already changed the job, didn't help. "You need a better outlook" How is that going to make me less physically tired? "You're just bitter because MY life isn't like that" Bully for you. I'm tired. That's all I fucking said. But apparently I can't even say that without people jumping in to defend themselves.

I honestly don't understand this reaction, but it makes me think y'all have some deep seated issues. And I'm gonna bow out now. Go tell the second commenter below how they're doing life wrong.

Cause I'm tired.

“Nobody wants to work anymore... cause working fucking sucks.” That’s literally what you said. And everyone else here is pointing out that isn’t true and now you’re crying foul.

Re: Comment OP

DA

Broccoli is disgusting. Are you gonna universalize that, too? Jesus fucking christ, you people.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
OP literally explicitly said that they think their view is The Truth

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
You do realize that OP was the one who made an actual universal claim and even tried to back it up with a newspaper article and personal anecdotal testimony, right? No one is fabricating or exaggerating anything. OP literally said stupid shit that wasn’t reflective of reality and kept doubling down on it as the universal truth. And then got upset and lied that everyone misunderstood their comments, that they only meant themselves.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You said everyone who isn't as miserable as you must just not be old enough yet to understand, and now you're whining that there's pushback?

I'm nearly 40; I have a disabled spouse; I live in one of the most expensive states in the country; and our combined income is less than $100,000, and yet we're somehow not completely burned out and unable to do anything. Yes, there are things about our country that could be greatly improved, but my experience (actual lived experience, anon) is that people like you don't want to face the extent to which your own choices contribute to your situation. It's not "victim blaming" when the person in question isn't actually a victim, just someone who doesn't want to take responsibility for their own life.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I’m sorry you’re going through that and I hope things get better for you. No one is saying no one feels like you, obviously you do and that’s valid. You’re valid. But you’re saying everyone feels like you and that isn’t true at all.

DA

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Where? They said everyone they know feels like that. Not that every one in the world does. They actually explicitly said that it varies from place to place..??????

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That’s the second anon who said it varies. OP said it’s everyone.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it depends on country, because some of them actually care about their citizens. I'm in the US where we're just vehicles for making the rich richer.

I dunno if this is a coast vs fly over thing

Sure, there are going to be wildly varying pockets of places where it's hunky dory, and places where it's soul crushing. That's why stats are important.

You were saying?

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
My dude, they said above that anyone who doesn't feel like they do must be in their 20s or early 30s, meaning the only reason for it is that they lack life experience.

They have a rigid idea of what life is like and are marinating in it.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly this.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think it’s interesting that Comment OP replied to many other comments but never acknowledged this one.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

+1

And the original comment was specifically about it being The Universal Truth. AYRT is just pissy because some people don’t hate their lives.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm happy that people don't hate their lives. I don't hate my life. I'm just fucking tired. And having people tell me to basically make more effort is not going to change the fundamental fact that having to work so much is never going to help, regardless of what job it is. Sometimes people are different than you, and society isn't created for them. And it makes it hard for them to navigate, and then when we talk about how hard it is, we get told we're doing it wrong and to try harder.

No. I'm tired of trying harder and harder and harder. Make society better.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
No one is telling you that you have to try harder though? Just pointing out that your experience isn’t universal.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
" If you hate what you do, you need to find something else. "

"Think of whatever activity or environment you like; there are jobs available. Career variety is at an all time high. "

"I think the “live to work” mentality carried over into the white collar world through the second half of the 20th century and some haven’t gotten the message that it doesn’t have to be like that."

Sounds like they know comment OPs life better than comment OP does... All of that shit? Takes effort, or is not in anyone's direct control.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe if OP talked in more personal terms rather than in universal truths people wouldn't be going against them so much.

Re: Comment OP

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, taking responsibility for your own life takes effort. It's still something people should do, instead of sitting around whining about how unfair it is that the universe wasn't designed to cater to them.
