Well, yeah. That is valid.

Okay, fam.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-14 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

If it happens naturally and attention isn't drawn to it, like, "I have a friend at the FBI who might be able to help, her name is Penelope." and no further mention of Criminal Minds, I don't mind it so much, it's more like an easter-egg, but anything more than that and I'm out.

Wow, exact opposite, I love crossovers but this is the kind of crossover I really hate.

If you write a crossover, the whole point is seeing how different settings and characters bounce off each other! Having a little Easter egg that gestures at another fandom you like doesn't do anything for me.

+1
If you are crossing two shows, ya gotta do something with it.

I would find that cute (because I like Penelope!) but it's so brief I don't even think of that as a cross over. I'd be annoyed if such a fic were described as a crossover, because I'd go into it expecting a lot more interaction between the two fandoms/characters and just having one reference feels like a let down.

This. I'd see that as an easter egg unless it's tagged as a crossover.

DA I'd feel the same. Love me an easter egg or a cameo, bit Id be let down and disappointed if Inhad been expecting a crossover.

Same with fusions that are tagged as crossovers. Those fic where someone just replaces all characters in Show A with characters from Show B.

Your feelings are valid, but I admit I love me a well done crossover. Sadly, many of them are not well done.

This is me now on AO3. I use to read more crossovers when I was younger, so maybe its my tastes that has changed; but I swear that hardly anyone knows how to write a decent crossover these days. Half the time, an attempt at crossovers usually comes with the price of all the characters being completely OOC and even described differently than their canon appearance.
