One of the guys in my gamer chat group is a jerk. I’d love to be able to give some creative descriptor but it’s just that simple. It started just with me and actually really hurt my feelings because he was basically trashing me for not being helpful enough.
For background, this chat is just to make it easy for players to partner up for the periodic co-op mode in our mobile game. But naturally we talk about other aspects of the game and when special events come out I’m one of the ones that help by doing it early and then sharing experience.

I spent in game currency for some extra resources and he tore into me about that’s not f2p (the whole rest of not just our chat but the FB group, subreddit, and Discord server consider it f2p because while you can buy the currency, you can also earn it in game. And the amount I spent on the extra resources was about how much a free to play player can earn in a few days. It’s a 30 day event so everyone who wants to complete the last stages buys the resources. And seasoned players like me (and the jerk) know it makes the biggest impact if you buy them at the beginning.

This all kicked off last Monday. He started getting dickish with a couple others starting midweek last week but one other who isn’t as active and had always been chill came into the chat when the jerk was being a jerk to me and now that other guy is being a dick to me, too.

The thing is, I’m better at this game than any of them. I don’t mean that to be a braggart. I’m better. And in the co-op mode, the partner with the most points gets a bonus. I play random matches and get my bonus and then change into my weakest build and play as an assist for my chat mates. I’m skilled enough to be able to make it through every run and make sure my partner gets the win.

We’ve been doing this since September and I’ve loved every second until the last week. I turned off notifications and haven’t been helping anyone. It’s soured the whole game for me and that’s what upsets me the most.

That is incredibly annoying. I hate when one bad apple really does ruin the bunch.
