idk i think it's pretty reasonable to get rid of living breathing weapons in the middle of them being the major and primary force behind the throne, and that throne is using them to kill you. what justified burning king's landing to you OP?

“that throne is using them to kill you”

The dragons in the pit weren’t being used to kill the civilians.

syrax was rhaenyra's dragon, which she used to capture king's landing, but i agree that the rest hadn't been used for war specifically. that's not really my point. i don't think it's necessary for any member of the public to think of the dragons as individual weapons.

did they kill any civilians when they took King’s landing? Wasn’t it basically left defenseless because Aemond had left with his dragon?

The civilians killed the dragons because the preacher whipped them into a frenzy.

directly by dragon? i don't think so. but deliberately and indirectly? yes. the sight of the dragons, and the direct threat they represent (grrm very specifically calls this out post conquest), caused a panic which killed dozens, and many people were displaced or looted from the frightened mobs. there was also a battle at the gates.

second, again grrm explicitly calls out that the reason the shepard could convince people to storm the pit is that they all feared draconic reprisal (they heard a rumor that Aegon was on his way back to the city on dragonback and that's why Helaena was killed).

Not at all. The small folk were pissed, and rightfully so, after what the Blacks did to the one true Queen of Westeros, Helaena Targaryen. First Blood and Cheese, then Maelor, and Heleana "jumps" from a window? Yeah, right.

Man, fuck them dragons! And fuck the Blacks... um, wait... that sounds a little...
