On the bright side, NPS generated enough income last year on the parking permits that in about ten years they’ll be able to start enforcing them. In the meantime, it has helped to quell the tide of tourists. And they’ve put up a lot of new signage and so far this year no one has run a mule off the trail to Le Conte

Where would Sevier county be without tourism I wonder. Probably completely dead like Giles or Robertson.

Which brings us back to the original points: 1. the tourism in the area has had a devastating impact on the Smokies and
2. Dolly isn’t perfect. No one is. I still love her but it’s crazy the way people suddenly have her up on this pedestal like she’s a saint or something. She’s a very shrewd businesswoman and there are always innocents who suffer as a result of other’s actions.
