Re: Pineapple

Yes, I didn’t think it was an allergy. Apologies if I was unclear. I tried to avoid any language that would imply I was allergic.

I thought it was still a reaction worth mentioning, but maybe I’m wrong.

Is that how most people feel after eating pineapple?

I’ve asked among my friends and family and the people who routinely eat it don’t seem to have that physical reaction.

NAYRT but maybe you just notice it more. Bromelin is an enzyme in raw pineapple that is basically meat tenderizer.

So it's trying to eat you back.

Yep, that’s exactly what I thought.

Weirdly, people felt like they needed to explain this to me.

I didn’t express that this was an allergic reaction. Simply a physical reaction to raw pineapple.

Can someone help me on how I should articulate this better in future?

NAYRT - maybe just say, like the anon below you, that you don't like tingling/burning sensation from raw pineapple? Generally speaking, when people say they have a reaction to a food (as opposed to just not liking something intrinsic to it), they're talking about either an allergy or a digestive intolerance. If, for example, someone said "I like ice cream, but unfortunately I have a reaction to it," people are going to think that person is talking about lactose intolerance or dairy allergy, not brainfreeze. It's not a huge deal either way, but there's a lot of false food and health information being passed around the socials these days, so you do run the risk of having things you already know explained to you if you're not specific.
