I think you’re right. Discovery is a new kind of Trek that wasn’t made for Trekkies. Paramount even alluded to that in the original marketing. Picard was an attempt to bring the TNG fans back into the fold and then Strange New Worlds (the other new one that isn’t the cartoon) was meant to be a bit of something for all Trekkies past and present. They really missed the mark on some things but despite NuTrek really not being my thing, they got a lot more right across the shows than longtime fans give them credit for.
