Honestly, I just wish there was more media where the "awkward losers" were female. I'd be more interested in the archetype then.

If you've not read Discworld, I think Magrat counts.

also Peanuts, Charlie Brown certainly qualifies. So does Mr. Bean.
also, Red Green. Most of the characters on that show are awkward losers although the "classic nerd", Harold, is ironically the most sensible character in the show.

I really loved S1 of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (the netflix one), specifically because the character were basically all awkward losers.

That said, S2 was a let down, and then all that shit came out about the creator and kind of ruined it. (I'm usually very good at separating the creator and the art, but holy shit, the stuff that came out about Max Landis was bad, and he was single-handedly responsible for so much of the show that it's just really hard not to feel weird about it in hindsight.)

First season was awesome
This reminds me. When the first season came, a lot of us just learned about Landis and he seemed like a cool dude from a first glance. Then all his shit got brought to the light, this was crushing. I had a twitter mutual who became so judgy and was victim blaming so hard, telling how it's so ~obvious that he is a garbage human. To this day I am still angry at their response and myself for not blocking this mutual at that point because I was on for a ride.

Wait, so they were judging people for having been fans and not just intuiting somehow that Landis was a POS? If so, that's ridiculous. Landis always seemed like a weird dude, but most people assumed he was cool-weird and not bad-weird (myself included). I think that's just natural, especially when it comes to the creators of things we really like.

Honestly, I don't even care if people are still fans of the show. If they have the ability to compartmentalize, and enjoy the show without it being tainted for them by the creator's horrifying behavior, I say good for them.

Yup. They were writing things like "yeah I knew he was a creep from the start haha you are just suckers". Oh excuse me for not being cynical and believing in good in people and finding him quirky.
Yeah, I am not blaming people for still liking the show but I also just can't myself, my brain goes nope. That sucks because it had such a wonderful looser characters

It’s annoying, but I’m so unsure of what counts… especially when it comes to male characters.

It feels like they so often have qualities that would make them seem like “losers” in the (most judgmental version of the) real world. And yet they come out as pretty cool fictional characters.
