There's a big difference between saying, "this trope isn't my thing" and saying, "when a trans guy bottoms, it's actually hetero sex in disguise." It's the latter that I took issue with, and it's the anon who made that argument that I've been primarily engaged with.

It's amazing how you keep persistently ignoring that this is about very pervasive and potentially questionable tropes in fanfic, not about real life.

Yes, it's fanfic, not real life. But sometimes, when people question tropes in fanfic, they bring their real life attitudes into it. Anon above has consistently argued, first, that to fuck is to penetrate, and that to get fucked is to be penetrated, linking penetrating directly to active participation in sex and getting penetrated to passive participation; and second, that in order to fully express their manhood, a trans man must penetrate their partner. Even *if* it's the case that there are people writing these pics who feel similarly (which I will certainly grant you could be true), it doesn't change the fact that anon *also* has an essentialist idea of what it means to be a man or woman, an idea that seems to require trans men having sex in a particular way in order to not be women.

Except they absolutely did not say that all trans male characters only ever should be portrayed as the penetrating partner. They just criticised that trans male characters in fanfic are ONLY EVER the penetrated (in their vagina) partner.

And then put forth the position that to fuck is to penetrate, which I fundamentally disagree with on the grounds that it's sexist.

Okay, so you then derailed the entire argument into a discussion about language and how to define fucking. How do you expect to have a conversation about SHIPPING FIC then? With all due respect, this is a sensitive topic that a lot of people find triggering, and it's possible it brought up some stuff for you that is hard to deal with. You sound like you're hella misinterpreting people and taking their words in the worst way possible, if you're not actually a troll, and I'm not sure what you're getting out of this argument. I was trying to engage for a bit but now I'm just confused. Like, what was with the part where you reply to someone who was simply saying they want to see more strap on fic and accuse them of saying essentialist stuff when they actually never mentioned it? It's okay to take a step back, and let it go that people feel different than you about sexuality and erotic fiction.

This is exactly it. This is the problem. Every time I see a fic with a trans male character, it always, ALWAYS features them being vaginally penetrated and I'm sick and tired of that. I want to see fics with the trans men getting anal or being the one doing the penetrating for a change.

In your example, you would be describing a world in which femsub erotica is extremely rare, which is not the world we live in.

This conversation is to do with the abundance of PIV ftm bottom fics, where the characterization often emphasizes the trans character's submission and vulnerability, and may focus heavily on his femininity as well as on his trans body parts. This is a kink that a lot of people are into, including many trans guys. Many people also find the trope triggering because of its closeness to real life transphobia towards ftms. That taboo element is also part of why people are drawn to it, of course. It's also why it draws criticisms and makes many readers uncomfortable to see the huge trend for these fics.

A better example to fit this thread than what you said would be someone defending femsub fanfic, despite it being extremely common and often having sexist overtones, and insisting that it can't actually be sexist or criticized for the tropes used because real life women sometimes choose to submit. This is essentially what you're doing here.

Woman isn't less of a woman or a feminist if she wears heavy make up. But people still can and should criticize how in media women look the same.
Yes, it's sus that a lot of authors make trans characters just to fuck some pussy. And maybe individual authors aren't bad or sexist etc and there is nothing wrong with a kink but people allowed to be wary and allowed to dislike the trope
