At least in some you *can* skip the fishing minigame-- yeah, it definitely affects completion, but not plot progress (at least in a couple I've played-- like, you *could* fish in some recent Fire Emblem and Sonic games, but if you don't want to, it doesn't matter. Animal Crossing, if you don't fish, there's a wing of the museum that stays empty, but... it's Animal Crossing. Coral Island... I'm not sure. You can certainly find *some* fish without fishing, but the museum progression is actually tied to some plot stuff)

My own personal bete noir is stealth-- I was excited about Mineko's Night Market and then BAM, stealth mission in the demo. Wound up just not buying it.

SAME. When I am playing a game and it has a mandatory stealth section, I grimace. I'm no good sneaking around. Just let me beat the crap out of my enemies! I've no patience sneaking behind them!

nayrt but that reminds me of a sequence in Eiyuden Chronicle where (mild spoiler but not really) you have to sneak into an occupied area. I bust up laughing when the hero got the brilliant idea to dive into barrels to narrowly avoid being caught by the enemy. Yeah, sure, dude... the soldier patrolling with the light totally isn't going to notice that shaking barrel he's walking past.
