I'm weirded out by the intensity of feelings about her in both directions. I like some of her music, I dislike other parts of it. She's a decent singer with some good songs. That's it. She's not an angel, she's not a demon.

I want you to know the phrase "people going to war over the equivalent of a vanilla cupcake with maybe too much frosting" has absolutely helped me be less of a hater. Now every time I feel slightly salty about her I remember "vanilla cupcake with maybe too much frosting" and it helps me put things in perspective, so thank you random anon!

How are you unable to get away from her? Honestly FS is the only place I keep running into to the topic. I think I saw ine headline in my reddit feed the other day but other than that it doesnt come up in my internetting much.

Though tbf I don't do most social media. I have a locked down facebook amd a quiet little reddit account and thats about it.

Same! The most I ever saw of Taylor Swift was during the lead up to the super bowl. And most of that was podcasts discussing how conservatives had all kind of crazy conspiracies about her.

It's gotta be the social media factor.

Three months ago it felt like everyone I knew on Facebook was writing essays on how profoundly victimized Taylor had been by football fans on Twitter saying they were sick of hearing about her. They spoke like the poor dear couldn't possibly pick herself back up after such maligning.

I think your limited use of social media is probably a big part of the reason. Although she comes up in the news a fair bit in cycles, so you must have a very strictly filtered news source.

I’m another who doesn’t care about her beyond wishing I didn’t have to hear/read about her so much. And her fans can sometimes be extra obnoxious, which kinda goes along with wishing I could avoid her/her fans more.

If "ambivalent" means "neutral", then I am too. I don't have enough pieces of information to assess if I think she is more of a good or a bad person, and I'm not interested enough in her to learn more. I like (not love) some of her older songs (cheesy but good for fanvid), didn't listen to a lot of the newer ones. She seems nice at first glance, but maybe she's secretly the spawn of Satan. I don't know and don't care all that much (not that it's wrong to care). I'm just going to do what I do for every other human being and give her the benefit of the doubt.

I don't really have any strong feelings one way another. Have never been able to get into her music, something about it just falls flat to me... but she comes off as inoffensive to me (aside from her billionaire status, but to be fair, I'm not a fan of any billionaire) and I give her credit for inspiring some folks to register to vote, and pissing off conservatives who don't think voting should be a right.

I'm a pretty committed T-Swift fan and I don't buy physical media at all (I can't afford a bigger apartment which means I can't afford clutter), so I've never really understood people's gripes about physical copies having different stuff on them. IDK, I guess I just don't understand diehard completism in the age of Spotify.

Anything you buy digitally is not actually yours. It's something you're essentially renting that could be revoked at any time. I used to think that buying digital was amazing and so space saving - then I found myself having to rebuy the same movie three times as it went on and off vudu. Now I'm slowly gathering my very favorite media in physical form against the possibility that my carefully curated libraries go down or the sites they're on do. And I'd like not to have to buy several similar physical versions to get a complete set.

I just buy Mp3s of all my music and store them in a couple of different places for safe keeping. If I can't find an Mp3 available to buy, then I rip it from youtube, or anywhere else I can torrent it.

I'm not going to buy a physical copy of media I don't want to own a physical copy of.

But fair enough, I can understand wanting to own a physical copy. Still though, if what you're worried about is permanence, why not buy or torrent mp3 copies of the stuff that isn't included on the CD/record?

People like to own stuff. If you only listen on streaming, or even if you buy a digital copy, you’re only paying for limited access rights.

I actually love that her physical media is known for having lots of thoughtful artwork! That used to be a major theme in music that just kinda died out. TS is one of the heavies behind bringing that back.

I don't care about her in the same way I didn't care about Justin Bieber when everyone had a hate boner for him. It'll be the same when there's another popular celebrity to hate.
