Seems like shows like this have always been around, not much of a new trend.

I like 'em, but I do wish there were more of the same type of psuedo historical dramaramas for other cultures and periods.

I used to watch a lot of media from other countries, then I stopped torrenting shows and all I get is whats on my TV. I miss those days of exploring multicultural media but I'm too lazy to set up a new sailing vessel.

I actually don't want to imagine the UK doing historical shows based in other cultures than their own. It would be either a shitshow, would generate a shitstorm or likely both.

Most Asian countries, however, have entire industries and studios built around historical dramas. There literally are thousands of them. Not sure about South America but considering the thriving telenovela industries in a lot of those countries, im sure they have historical shows as well.

Yeah thanks no thanks. I have enough of USA's takes on different culture I don't need British too.
I've seen couple of South America's historical shows, they were decent. (I am not a fan of period drama to start with so I can't say a lot more)

That's a fair point. The most strict countries aren't English speaking as far as I know though.
And even without piracy even basic Netflix has a decent library of historical and psuedo historical shows from different countries.

Yeah, I think this is a symptom, not a cause. Start with all the "spirit of the Blitz" people who couldn't take a minute of lockdown. Boris Johnson, looking at you.

"We're going to kill Nazis" is different to "you will not see let alone hug another family member until the Government allows you, because some 80 year old with terminal cancer might die with Covid" are completely different and you know it. You probably enjoyed furlough and masked delivery drivers bringing you food and not having to get dressed and go outside.
