Reset your tumblr. Unfollow anyone negative, change the tags you follow, follow some new people.

I get the negativity seems relentless when you're in the middle of it but tumblr really is a place where you curate your own experience of it.

I was gonna say, what is OP talking about? Because my fandoms on Tumblr are very chill. People actually use tags for what they're meant for so it's very easy to avoid the stuff you don't want to see.

+1, Tumblr is super easy to avoid the wank. Unless you're causing it. Though I will never get over all the people who get anon hate but won't turn off anon comments (and if they don't turn off anon after the first one, I've got to start thinking they're sending it to themselves).

Huh, it's funny because I've had nearly the opposite experience. I lurked for years and years when my fandoms were much busier because I was too frightened of saying the wrong thing that would start a chain of reblogs yelling at me. But over the past year, because things like Twitter are enshitified and fandom on there is fragmenting, I've actually started using tumblr more and it's nice to be able to chat to people about things I care about who feel similarly.

The only thing that makes me feel sad is when I see legacy posts I remember reading when I lurked and I wish I'd got involved at the time...oh well.

Also in one of my fandoms I've had to block loads of tags because I simply do not care about the ship war. It's made my existing tags a lot better doing that.

(Not disputing your experience and I'm sorry it's causing you so much anxiety, just found it interesting we've had a constrasting experience on there!)

The good news is that Tumblr is the one place that you can change that pretty easily.

Unfollow anyone upsetting you, tweak your tags! Easy peasy

Good luck, OP :)

I feel very similarly with Twitter. I follow a lot of great artists, but can't get myself to check it out with how much negativity it throws at me. My Tumblr has been alright, but can still have off days too.

This may sound sad, but I've been having a better time on Reddit.

I wish Reddit was like me for me, but instead the fandom board is full of negativity and people that repeat the world "literally" over and over.

ayrt

Oh, yeah, when a Reddit community suck, they suck really bad! I just got luck with some communities.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Lol. I left twitter for some time now and my expirience became much better. Including reddit. Reddit is extremely repetitive in some communities though

You need to curate your experience more closely, OP. Tumblr is what you make of it.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-03 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really hard to follow any tumblr though, even fandom ones, that don't suddenly start making political posts and you are a Literal Nazi if you disagree with them in any way on their current hobby horse.

The block button is your friend

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
it may be that your fandoms on tumblr might be especially toxic or are really big. i've had pretty good experiences on tumblr so far. pretty much all of my tumblr fandom spaces have been chill. they're also smaller fandoms and/or less popular canons. i've definitely seen a couple people try to come in from twitter trying to stir shit but no one takes the bait and i block them.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Been on tumblr since 2010 and it's always been a shitshow. But there's nowhere else to go.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
All of social media has bots, malware and viruses. Discord, Tumblr, Reddit, et cetera. Even this hell site.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is why I have so many side-blogs for my different fandoms on Tumblr. But everyone is right, you gotta curate your feed and either unfollow or block people.
Unless its the tags to your fandom where you're seeing most of the negativity. Then I'm sorry OP :( Blocking might still help, but I can also understand not wanting to be out the fandom loop either (that's been my experience with one fandom I'm in where there's some really good artists, but sometimes they go into some really self-entitled rants about the creator of the series which can be annoying too lol).

(Anonymous) 2024-05-02 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Others have said it, but curate your dash, op.
I follow people that post about my fandom and unfollow them if they start posting too much unrelated stuff. I use Tumblr savior to block posts with words and tags that upset me, and anyone posting war propaganda gets blocked.

I’m not a fan of the rampant memes and jokes on that site, nor do I like how it’s primarily an image-sharing site as opposed to something more writing-focused like a forum.

There are only so many times I can see the same gifs over and over, the same pictures, the same attempts at humor, the same meta. Every time I join a fandom on that site, I find myself getting bored and annoyed after a while.

It’s still the best social media out there, but the competition isn’t stiff.
