Maybe not a few years, or a hard re-boot. But MCU could slow down a bit... Disney overall could learn a bit about Quality over Quantity.

They need to develop some original franchises. They can't really slow down the content, because their business relies on it, and franchises are the best way to do content at the scale they need. But they need to basically do the content creation equivalent of crop rotation: they need to be able to have franchises lay fallow for a few years to make sure the fandom doesn't exhaust itself.

Right now, they basically have three franchises: Marvel, Star Wars, and Princesses. To have the pace of content they need while not over-exploiting any one franchise, they probably need 6 or 7 franchises they can use. And there really aren't any pre-existing franchises of that scale remaining to be exploited (at least I can't think of any; happy to be proven wrong).

So, what they clearly need to do is start funding a bunch of original movies with franchise potential with budgets probably around ~100 million or so, release 1 or 2 a year, and hope like hell a few of them really take off and become new franchises.

Disney bought their biggest franchises when they were already huge and had built-in fanbases going back decades. They don't know how to create a huge franchise. They'll spend money trying to buy up more franchises than take a risk on something that isn't a sure thing.

I genuinely think there just aren't any franchises out there for them to buy that have that kind of buy-in and that aren't owned by their business rivals.

Like I really, really can't think what they are.
