lol I wrote the Discovery secret from the other day - me and OP had the same-ish brainwave.

Ngl Enterprise was a whole lot more interesting to watch than Discovery ever was. For starters - less fucking boring as hell Klingons scenes and the existence of T'Pol.
It sucks because I actually wanted to like Discovery, but just felt like it was a chore to watch the first two series. Plus I still feel a tiny bit bitter with the initial pre-series build up for Michael to be the first black female Captain; only for her to be Captain for a whole 5 minutes before being a prisoner and... bleh. I've heard that she gets to be a Captain in series 3, but I don't have it in me to slug through another series right now.

She became a captain and it was somehow worse. She never earned it. Or earned it by being irresponsible and defying authority every step of the way for good and bad.
If she was a captain to start with there would be no need to examine how did it happened too close.

To be fair, having T'Pol (an excellent character) also meant she got all the shitty, sexist rape storylines that Deanna Troi used to get - at least Discovery didn't do that. And Enterprise had the boring as hell Xindi storylines and Malcolm never got to be gay onscreen. I still agree with your points about Michael's storyline!

Oh that's true I agree with about the sexism (and yeah what was up with the weird rape trope in Berman's shows - I saw that happen a couple of times in Voyager with Seven). Idk if watching it at the time when it came out while I was a teenager at an episode per week made the viewing experience 'better' than now. Whereas with Disco I did watch a bunch of episodes at a time, so maybe spacing it out would have been better?
Like I know that Enterprise isn't anywhere near perfect, but I have been able to rewatch it. Maybe I'll feel differently about Discovery in a couple of years and give it another try.
