The whole "gives me the ick" gives me the ick.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-05 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's such a juvenile thing to say.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh I think you've hit on why it bothers me so much. I hate babytalk so much and I didn't really think about it but this definitely reads as babytalk.

Sometimes it's just the only description you have for something!

Barry Keoghan gives me the ick in a way I can't describe other than that term.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No. There are so many other ways of wording it. Its a fairly new phrase but the concept of someone making you uneasy, creeping you out, giving a weird feeling etc isn't new.

But I'm just a grumpy person on the internet expressing my dislike, you keep on using whatever funky infantalising terms you like. We all have a few of them we use.

She looks crazy/mean and it's very hot of her.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-05 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people just have that kind of face. For me, it's Sarah Paulson. I'm sure she's a lovely person, but her face makes me want to punch her.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-05 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No I understand what you mean OP, I just find it hot as hell.

Same. She's great at playing villains. She was really hot on Criminal Minds.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-05 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I kinda feel the same way about her, OP. She seems deliberately and pointedly insincere, like she's toying with people constantly, like she wants to keep them on the back foot. She makes me feel wary, and that's not something I enjoy.

She's very good at playing deadpan characters who like subtly (or not so subtly) messing with people, though, I'll definitely give her that.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's acting.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
She seems that way in the live interviews I've seen her in. That's why I talked about her acting in a separate paragraph.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know. And *it's acting.* She's playing into a type.

Do you honestly believe that actors are their real selves when giving interviews? It's all carefully managed to give a certain perception.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly believe I don't care. If the way someone chooses to present themself makes me feel wary, I'm not going to want to spend time with them (or spend time on them, if the person is a celeb).

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thing is, anon, if you buy acting in one direction, it usually means you buy it in other directions, as well.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
DA
How DARE you find someone unlikeable! If you don't like this actress who cultivated a potentially unlikeable persona (or not, maybe it's just how she is), you are a gullible person!

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Believing that how celebrities present themselves to the public is how they actually are is what makes anon gullible, not the fact that they dislike someone.

Is that not the persona she tends to play into (and the type of character she generally plays)?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to say, that's basically her entire character in Parks and Recreation.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I liked her in that scammer movie? But April on Parks and Rec, I'm sorry, millennials, but she played the worst kind of blasé "ironic" dickhead millennial. Blech. I hated April! I'm sure she's probably a nice person IRL, though.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I found her tolerable within the context of P&R, but IRL oh my god I wouldn't be able to stand her. If she'd been a bit younger I think I'd be a lot more forgiving of her attitude. A lot of teens go through an "I'm too real for everybody else's lame bullshit" phase, so if she'd been like fifteen I would've chalked it up to a natural consequence of where she was at in life. But even in the first season she already feels a bit old for that "I'm so real; everybody else is a sheep; ugh get me out of here" mindset.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-06 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, basically same. It's probably just her face and she plays into it, but I just don't find this persona hot

i mean yeah, casting directors agree with you.

i'll say the stuff i've seen her in where she's supposed to be a person without a vibe/normal? she comes across as more sad? miserable? in a way that very interesting to me.

but yeah gaslight gatekeep is her whole legion character lol.

Some people are typecast for a reason. It's why Martin Freeman gets typsecast as the grumpy, kinda dickish English Everyman. He CAN play other roles but that doesn't mean what he gets typecast aren't roles that are apparently pretty close to what he's actually like/portrays himself in interviews to be.
