Eh, no need to be ashamed. I haven’t been on wattpad myself, but I expect it can't all be garbage. And even if the fic you're talking about kind of is, beggars can't be choosers. If you can squeeze any joy out of reading it at all, it’s fulfilled its purpose as fanfic.

Honestly, if the site has the only fic you want for certain characters, it's a whatever. Use whatever site you want.

There's loads of badly written fic on ao3 too that get read regardless. On that note, I'm sure there are decent fic published only on wattpad too. It's all just sites to host fic at the end of the day.

As. shameless self insert ficcer myself, I too have stooped to the dregs of Wattpad. Also signed up for an account. Also read questionably written fic. Also enjoyed said fic and reading the reactions people commented on the side (they were sometimes in line with my own reactions so lmao).

With that said, just give yourself permission. Is it the highest caliber of fic sites? Probably not, but at least the fics have nice covers and you're finding your favorite pairings so *shrug*. No one's judging you. I'm certainly not.

I will admit that I question the good sense of grown-adult people who think Wattpad is just as good or better than AO3 (or even FFN). But I don't judge anyone for using Wattpad. I've never had to turn to Wattpad for the content I was looking for, but if it was the only site where I could find my niche, I'd probably be over there rn trying to figure out how the fuck to find the decent shit.

+1, exactly. If the fic you want to read is on Wattpad, that's where it is, the end. It's a terrible site for many reasons, but the OP isn't praising the site, they just want that particular fic.

I'm sort of out of the fanfic loop, but I never really understood the anti-Wattpad stance. It's not like all the fics on AO3 are world-class quality, and I like that you can like/kudos/whatever PER CHAPTER rather than once per story.

Algorithms, ads, and censorship, primarily. (Secondarily, Tiktok kids who insist those three things are good, actually.) Doesn't stop someone from posting the occasional gem, as OP has discovered, but the site overall is kinda........ not fun to work with.

Honestly that's the main reason why I have in the past ended up on the majority of websites where I would not have thought to look for fanfics.

Discovered Adultffnet BEFORE ffnet because of someone linking their fic from a fanforum. Then there were so many fan communities on Livejournal that would send me to various places other than ffnet for some really good fanfics in the Pre-AO3 times; like Y!gallery, Deviantart and LJ alternates like Insanejournal or here on DW.

I even resisted AO3 way back in 2012 up until a fandom I was really into at the time barely had any fics on ffnet, but had a crapton on AO3. Tis the way of fandom life lol.

I've visited many fandom archives in my time on the internet (which started... before the turn of the century). I look mostly to AO3 nowadays because it has fic I want to read in a format that I like. But I also go to certain author pages and challenge sites. If they didn't have what I want, I'd probably go further afield (I'm very comfortable in my familiarity with AO3, so I might just find a new fandom that I like or go back to an old one). Anyway, I've waded my way through The Wonderful World of Makebelieve, Chance's Slash Archive, AdultFanFiction.Net, Slashfanfiction.com, The Complete Kingdom of Slash, Gossamer (X-Files), Smallville Slash Archive, ELF Command (SeaQuest DSV), due South Archive, and many more to find fic I wanted. Some archives are better than others, but that doesn't guarantee they'll have what you want, so if Wattpad serves you, then that's cool. Happy reading!

Where there is fic there is bound to be good fic. Good on you for finding it and experiencing joy.

Now, if you were to come out and say every fic site should have ads and an algorithm I'd fight you in a Dennys parking lot but that isn't what you're saying so it's all good. Even I, the world's biggest wattpad hater, don't hate people for enjoying wattpad.
