I mean, sure, that is true for some ND people. But some of us are also much more interested in taking a particular part of canon and running with it no matter what happens before or after. And some of us get introduced to one part of canon, go investigate, and find an entirely different part to love. And some of us get into a canon later and enjoy the new stuff but don't like the old stuff. And some of us... it's almost as if ND people are people.

My personal feeling is that canon and lore and detailed worldbuilding are great. But often the best place for those things is gazeteers and fan wikis and writer's notes. Not the stories themselves.
