I DO tend to memorize a lot of canon details and I CAN be rigid when it comes to interpretations of said canon... but at the same time, I also do look at how things could be different! I discard pieces of canon all the time because often canon is inconsistent and you DO need to pick and choose if you want consistency. And I get into headcanons that make sense to me even when they are not intentionally hinted at by canon!
