Re: How are you out of step with your fandom?

I feel like I'm the only person who thinks the Xenoblade series should NOT be directly connected with the Xenosaga series, no matter how much goddamn lore was dropped in Future Redeemed. I feel like I'm losing my mind when I see discussion of this, usually by people who have never played the Xenosaga series (not their fault), and are only familiar with two of the characters, which can be drawn as legendary blades in the second Xenoblade. Fans heard names dropped in a cutscene in FR and got way too excited... and the thing is, I get it. I remember having similar feelings when Xenosaga Episode I first came out and I kept thinking of all the ways it might be connected with Xenogears. But I quickly learned that Perfect Works squashed all of that, and despite some characters looking like they were transplanted into the game, there was no direct connection, and it had its own story. We got a few Easter eggs though, and that was just fine with me.

But Saga and Blade are much bigger than Gears, being series with 3-4 games each. And with each sequel, the writers conveniently retconned just a little bit of story to force the rest of it to work. Some might argue it wasn't a retcon, only an expansion, and I agree to some extent. But in some cases, it also created some plot holes and other messes, and the thought of trying to put the two in the same universe (and hell, the same world) just makes me think it would be a godawful disaster. Parallel universes I could see. But not the same universe. There's so much lore already and I'd really rather not have to go through another retcon, oh excuse me, creative "expansion" just to force another merging of worlds. At this point, I'm hoping that "visitor" at the end of Future Redeemed had Xenoblade X origins (the other theory) or that it was a new entity completely unconnected to Saga or Blade.

That's my rant. Anyone is free to disagree but I am not interested in debating this. And I realize that just because a bunch of fans want one thing doesn't mean the writers will be delivering (especially considering they say they're done with that part of the story), so getting upset is dumb and pointless.
