I don't even go here but I feel like this is a really wanky topic for some reason.

Lol. Yeah. Just about my thoughts exactly, anon.

It is indeed! There are people magically bound to his family's service in a way that is not analogous to any real-life situation, so now people are wanking about slavery.

What is this anime even about? Is it worth watching? What is this show and how problematic is it?

It's a show set in a Dungeons and Dragons style fantasy world with a big magical dungeon that adventuring parties venture into. One adventuring party goes to rescue a member of their group (you can resurrect people if you find them in time) but they have no money for food so they decide to eat monsters, and meet up with a guy whose been doing this for years. It's graphic in the sense of butchering, it's not very sex-driven, people get very strong opinions on the main guy, Laios, who is very clearly autistic. The biggest ship is f/f but it's technically not canon.

It's a great show, a bit on the slow and chill side though it does have action/adventure. I honestly don't care about the fandom for it at all, I just like the series. So I don't know wtf people fight about other than what gets posted on here. The show itself has gorgeous animation and I am really enjoying seeing the story unfold, and the characters are cute and funny to me.

(Not a mark against it that I'm not in the fandom, I am active in only a rare few fandoms these days because of my current job being demanding)

On-purpose problematic. Every character is a jerk sometimes, every character has blind spots when recognizing bigotry, and the author isn’t interested in easy solutions. The fandom really sands the edges off of it.

(I don’t have an opinion on Shuro specifically, because he doesn’t interest me.)

Is this about Izutsumi?

Yeah.

...Given her flashbacks, I don't think she was a slave so much as the collar was because she was unruly as hell and refused to listen to the detriment of her teammates because she wants to act alone instead of in harmony with them. She has no sign of the collar in the flashbacks, and there while she's told be grateful it seems to be because she's taking for granted the kindness she's being shown. So IDK if I missed something or not, but they seem to be hired retainers and they're treated as extended family. Basically it feels like a last resort.
