I've never watched it (and if they had Palin AND Rudy on, I never will) but I thought the point was to get you to figure out who was wearing the stupid costume based on how they "sang." Not to sing well, or rap well, or do anything besides be a joke on the level of every game show since 1968. Were they supposed to sing well or be real singers??

The point of the show is both to showcase the contestants' singing ability and to guess who's under the mask.

There were many legitimate singers who competed on the show, like Gladys Knight, NeYo, Amber Riley (from Glee), and Sisqo. There have also been athletes, A to D List actors, and pseudo celebrities. Some singers, like Dionne Warwick, obviously do the show just to see if anyone would recognize them by their voice.
Some contestants actually can sing and are more comfortable doing it anonymously behind a mask.

The worst ones , like Palin, can't sing for shit and just do it, in her case, in a botched attempt to rehabilitate their image.

Is it stupid af? Yes it is.
It's a stupid guilty pleasure I allow myself and Palin, Rudy Guiliani, and John Schneider's POS MAGA asses aren't going to ruin it for me.
Neither will the fact I can't stand Jenny McCarthy or Robin Thicke; I tend to tune the judges out as they seem to love everyone regardless of how they sound. For me, it's not about the judging, as I suspect the winners are likely predetermined.

I like the premise of the show and seeing people I wouldn't expect to see on a singing competition show up and actually sing well, like T-Pain or Nikki Glaser.
As long as they actually sing.

While I generally don't mind rap in a singing contest if kept it to a minimum (some songs have a singer both singing and rapping), I can understand the argument for eliminating it.

On a side note, while Palin rapping Baby Got Back didn't bother me at all, I stopped watching the show after that. Not because of her, but because the pandemic kind of tainted any enjoyment I was getting from watching.
