Why should we care about the brutality of war, then? Death is a fact of life; all of those people were eventually going to die, anyway, so why get upset about it?

If every person who died in that war is someone who spent their entire adult life trying to take rights away from people they saw as lesser than themselves, then sure, there's no reason to be upset about it.
