Guy's awesomeness notwithstanding - because it is indeed total - now might not be the best time to try to get a handle on DC continuity. Just saying. ^^;;; (Read something Johns DIDN'T write? Or something a bit more self contained? I dunno.)

Uh. Well. Okay, so the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams run in the 70s was really good, and self-contained, and that's GL volume 2 76-89 (except for 88, which was a reprint of an earlier story).

More recently, Emerald Dawn I and II were a retelling of the Hal Jordan origin done pretty well (although it WAS retconned out by the origin Johns wrote in GL V4 which was Much Less Fun).

Green Lantern Corps is a lot of fun, although there might be continuity issues if you don't know who these people are.

You could just start with GL: Rebirth, I suppose, and then GLC: Recharge, and pick up GL V4 and GLC from there.

For a LOT of Guy's awesomeness in a non-GL title, I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League. :D

There's a blog mostly GL-related called Hoosier Inanity lurking around somewhere (I forget the URL, but hey, google), and the author has a lot of posts about various things in the title's publication history as well as some of the stuff going on now.

It's also pretty funny. :D

What? He's a hot nerd who writes phenomenal stuff and wrote almost all my favorite characters. Anyone who gets that "family" vibe right (from the right characters) is aces in my book.
