Well, not exactly. Scudder isn't Maurice's servant and he objects strongly to Maurice treating him as less than an equal. And their plan to run off into the greenwood is a way of leaving behind society's class distinctions as well as homophobia. I think it's a very different dynamic from Sam/Frodo.

On the extended version of The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, there is an interview with Tolkien experts and Peter Jackson. They stress the importance of class division between Frodo and Sam. I'd have to agree with you (even though I don't write slash fiction).

Totally agree with you. The difference is both canon AND like you said, it adds to the fics.

I love me some pre-quest F/S--with all the class differences that implies. It is always strange to me when people write that pairing and don't seem to get why Sam (or Rosie later on) is doing in Frodo's house.

Anyhow, liking master/servant doesn't mean you support classism any more than liking non-con means you support rape or liking incest fic means you think siblings should fuck.
