From what I've heard, I think it was supposed to be more like this. The focus was still on Echo, but there was more about the other dolls. Tango, for instance, was supposed to be an older doll, and she originally had a back story, but Fox wanted everyone in the Dollhouse to be gorgeous and had that part taken out.

Yeah I got the feeling from the original pilot that if FOX hadn't meddled we probably would've gotten more about the Dollhouse and the other characters much sooner. Not just "Look how sexy Eliza is, and hey there are motorcycles."

I would have liked to have seen Tango :(

Oh man, you just reminded me that I never watched the unaired pilot so I went and watched it. So much better than the original!

I'm hoping that the Tango story will come up in season 2 (though not actually Tango, obviously, since we've already met her and she isn't old).

Yeah I really enjoyed the original pilot, I suppose I could see how it might be confusing. But it's really hard to say because I had already watched the other episodes and I followed the plot very easily.

I'm actually kind of glad the meddled and the pilot changed. Even watching it after the rest of the series I was sort of WTFing at it. I could not have imagined watching that as the first episode.
