everybody's got their favorite Bond, no need to keep liking Pierce best a secret.

Ugh, he's so cheesy. Bond is supposed to be more of a bastard, Craig really nails that. Brosnan plays it like a dumb comedy.

I feel like after Roger Moore the Bond series was suffering some indecisiveness. Timothy Dalton played it bastardly enough but the films still had some goofy-ass Moore-style gags (Q's "ghetto blaster" from The Living Daylights springs to mind). So they went back to lighter, softer Bond with Brosnan but then started trying to make the films less goofy...

if you want bastard!Bond and goofy comedy there's Archer!

I very much do not share this opinion, but I think it depends heavily on what one wants from the James Bond...experience. And I think it's totally valid that not everybody wants the same thing from the James Bond experience. There are many different aspects to James Bond canon, and everybody has their own preferences and hierarchies for which parts they value most, least, and everything in between.

Brosnan suffered from joining the franchise just as some of the goofy, excessive CGI stuff reached a crescendo and the stories needed to be stripped back. I think Brosnan was a very good Bond who was unlucky with some of the scripts he was given. I love Craig as Bond, but my feelings about him are

Ugh, misfire.

My feelings about Craig as Bond are colored by how much I liked Casino Royale as a script. Apart from Goldeneye, I don't feel like Brosnan got really good material to work with (and I might be remembering Goldeneye as better than it was.)

I don't know if he's the best Bond (because "best" is so... undefined, I guess) but I certainly enjoyed Brosnan's era a lot more than Daniel Craig's Bond era. I'm not even the anon who hates all the movies after Skyfall, but I get why they feel that way.
