Yeah, I gotta kinda agree with this one...even though he WAS fabulous.

Yeah. I mean, it's not that Snipes wasn't good, it's that the other (real life) drag queens in the NYC show were better, and the whole point was that Snipes and Swayze were supposed to tie for first place in the contest over all the rest. Swayze did an amazing job for a guy with presumably little experience dressing as a woman. I'd say it's one of his best performances, and it's easy to forget he isn't a genteel Southern lady with the way he speaks and carries himself at all times. It's not a comic exaggeration with him the way it was with Snipes, it feels like he's inhabiting the role to a different level. I never really had much of an opinion of him as actor prior to this and had only seen Dirty Dancing, but after To Wong Foo? RESPECT.

Yes! Mr Swayze really is a great actor; he didn't always get the respect he deserved for some really good roles.

Snipes seemed to really go to the outer reaches with his character, just kind of hammy and over the top (which does have its place). But I liked Swayze take on it much better.
