I don't understand the hate for this episode, I will say that.

I mean, it's a decent episode, but...I wouldn't say it's better than the two entire subsequent seasons.

I don't understand the hate for seasons 3 and 4.

Kali episode was fine though.

Yeah, I think seasons 3 and 4 are pretty solid overall. The Battle of Star Court is phenomenal.

I don't really have any problem with this episode - it did seem a little disconnected, but I think that was intended.

But, uh, Scoops Troop for life, man. Robin and Steve tripping balls, then that conversation in the restroom, amazing. Dustin had a few nice bon mots throughout season 3, too. Then season 4, Chrissy made an impact, even though she was there and gone. Then there was Eddie, a delight of a character. And Sadie Sink brought her A-game. I could be a little biased about these seasons, though - Steve is my favorite character and I enjoyed almost every scene he was in for both 3 and 4.

I've always felt like this episode gets way more negativity than it deserves, but I also kind of understand why it was a lightning rod for criticism.

I think the role it played in the season essentially set it up to be a really big deal. It felt like it was designed to be a total powerhouse episode that people raved about, and then it was just...ehh? And the disparity between the powerhouse role it felt like it was designed to play in the season, and the less-than-potent way that it actually delivered, left people feeling like it was a lot worse than it actually was, IMO.

Plus, it did kind of back-burner the overarching narrative tension at the worst possible time, IMO.

It was okay.
