Nope, just a fact. Give it a decade for everyone to get bored with the whole thing/everyone to be genderspecial until it's not actually special anymore and then the next hype will roll through and replace it.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there will be a new version of 'Not like the boring normies' on the way eventually, but my god will we have to put up with a lot of gender-flavored, navel-gazing, 'wahh, you're oppressing me if you don't validate me!' bullshit until then.

And there will still be many more trans people in all flavors than before all this, because most of it isn't people making up things about themselves to feel special, it's just people excited to discover things about themselves that they didn't know were possible before. They'll still be what they were when they were loud and annoying about it, you'll just think they disappeared because they don't feel like they need to be as loud anymore.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
And because plenty of them got pressured into the "no way back" stage of a transition they weren't sure about by their rabid echo chambers.

Weird terf troll anon aside, I find that the two philosophies (everyone is a man or a woman, and this always aligns with their birth sex, but men and women can look/behave like anything they want, versus every slight deviation from archaic, restrictive concepts of gender is its own gender) both have their own hypocrisies: for the first, its adherents don't actually think men and women can look/behave like anything they want, per the gender truthers shrieking that a short-haired girl on a soccer team must be a boy. They have very reductionist, restrictive, tiny-box notions of what it means to be a specific gender, and a few token occasionally-cross-dressing-for-fun cis people who are very clearly their birth sex to hold up as examples of how enlightened they are and how you can act/present as anything (as long as you're still attractive and cis and conform when required). For the second, they tacitly and fundamentally agree with the first group, because those tiny boxes are the frame of reference they use to designate each microgender as "other"--i.e., not (or not quite) that. So, while they hold that people can identify as whatever they wish, whatever feels true to them, they have a similarly reductionist, restrictive view of what a real man or woman must be. If one is outside this, and still identifies as that gender, they are "non-conforming".

That said, maaaaaan. I don't know. While I have reservations, I support the kids. The feminist movement failed to liberate women; the movement was consumed by capitalism and rather than breaking free from the restrictions placed on womanhood, it's, uh, empowering to embrace them! Yeah! Keep slathering plastic garbage on your face, but wokely! Your worth is still entirely defined by your appearance, but that's like, cool and fun and liberating (and if you question this you're the anti-feminist akshually ://///). Maybe the only way out is to allow everyone who doesn't want in to opt-out by identifying as a non-woman microgender, and by allowing amab people who do want in to identify as a femme-aligned microgender, until it literally means nothing anymore.

Until capitalism catches up and figures out how to sell things to all the microgenders, at least. And by god are they trying lmao

Capitalism has already caught up to the gender hype though. Do you have any idea how much money those clinics make?

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And all the rainbow-washing during pride month, and all the conveniently mass produced pronoun buttons, and the pharma industry, and the tons upon tons of books and the influencers with patreons and ad deals.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And all of them pushing the idea that everyone hates and wants to kill us, but we can FIGHT BACK by buying all of their shit and sticking it on our lawns!

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nuts how self-proclaimed leftists fall for this capitalistic consumerism. So corporations suddenly care about us when they can make money off us? No thank you.

DA but uhh in most countries, medical care (/clinics/etc.) is very much NOT a capitalist venture. In the U.S., sure, but the U.S. is legitimately unusual in the way it runs its healthcare compared to the rest of the world.

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
But it should be said that in countries where it's not a capitalist venture, trans healthcare has become more restrictive in recent years. It's almost completely limited to clinical trials, as they've determined that the evidence for its safety and efficacy isn't there.

For both this comment and the one below, citation needed.

A lot of gender clinics are private clinics though, so they very much for profit ventures.

"most of it isn't people making up things about themselves to feel special"

I hate to break it to you, but as someone who was also around on the internet for the "internet lesbian" phase, a not-insignificant portion of it is in fact exactly that.
