Tom Paris is both wonderful and completely annoying. He was great.

I think about him every time I bitch about new cars that are touch screen only. I want my driving stick! I want my physical radio buttons! I want a Tom Paris retro shuttlecraft!

But that's, like, the whole of Voyager, people pulling random crap to save the day. Seven of Nine sang torch songs to fool the Nazis, the Resistance, and the Hirogen. Janeway played a camp villain to save the beings on the holodeck. The Q fought The US Civil War and Janeway tried to mediate (and seemed really interested in how they reproduce). B'Elanna, a Klingon, fought her way out of Pon farr. Chakotay saved the crew through his spiritualism. Tuvok's mindmelds were multi-purpose. I know Harry Kim did some stuff, but I only vaguely remember any of it. The Doctor made several saves just by virtue of being holographic. I'm pretty sure at least one save Neelix made was by being annoying.
