I'm a very nerdy, mostly unfeminine girl in real life who knows nothing about fashion and barely cares about clothes. And yet, for some reason I really enjoy tv shows about clothes. Project Runway. Say Yes to the Dress. What Not to Wear. I don't get it. Why do I find these so fun?

I don't really give a fuck about skin care (except sun screen, I care about sun screen) and even less about make-up and yet I regularly watch Youtube videos about both topics.
I guess it's maybe precisely because we don't care irl that they're fun?

Heart wants what heart wants. I love watching extreme sports. But irl I am afraid of riding an elevator

I love all versions of Say Yes to the Dress. I think I just like looking at pretty dresses and the manufactured drama.

I like when a character can’t cook, but works hard and tries their best to make food for someone they care about. Simply not being able to make anything, not even a sandwich, is weird (though I did read a book once where the MC literally couldn’t make a jam sandwich).

I think it's not particularly hard once you figure it out, but I do personally find it tedious. The minigame is just not very interesting compared to the amount you'll end up having to do it.

That goes too far for me. Unless there's a really, really solid explanation for why a character can't figure out how to put stuff between two slices of bread, like they're an alien who just landed their spaceship and never heard of sandwiches. Something like that.

Assuming this is about modern day and about adult characters, nah, you're not alone. It doesn't bother me when those characters can't cook - like you said, realistic - but it bothers me when the other characters don't react to it by wondering wtf is up with that. Like if an adult IRL seriously tells me that they cannot cook anything at all, like not even a fried egg or grilled cheese, and doesn't see it as an issue, I'm definitely wondering.

I'm disabled, Bront.

The explanation given was that she’s never had to cook in her whole life, so she couldn’t figure out how to smear jam on a piece of bread without it tearing.

tbh as someone who loves and despises cooking--though yes, I do know enough to feed myself--I wish we could see more characters who are just kind of blah to it. It's always I'M SO GOOD or I'M THE WORST or MY FEELINGS WILL REACH THEM DESPITE MY UNSKILLED ATTEMPTS and it's never 'meh, i've meal prepped for the week so i don't need to cook, Julie. If you want something else, you make it.'

I loved this about Jackie and Hyde from That 70s Show. Jackie messed up a batch of cookies, trying to cheer Hyde up, but he was still willing to eat them.
