They want to serve because they have been brainwashed into thinking that is what they should want. Book 7 makes that clear if nothing else.

She certainly needs to learn better methods besides tricking them, but that doesn't mean she should give it up.

Also, this was sort of in response to a secret a few weeks back where someone thought it wasn't a proper use of Hermione's talents for her to keep fighting for causes like this.

In any case, my basic attitude remains the same: she was approaching it the wrong way (which really should be very surprising, since she's usually so meticulous about research!), and she should continue her crusade, but with more understanding and finesse.

Interesting context for this secret; I hadn't noticed the earlier one :)

well, I don't have the book on me, so I can't directly quote. I interpreted the parts with Kreature, especially with him leading the house elves in battle, as showing that Hermione was right in her views even if not her methods.
