Yeah, her stuff is pretty horrific... Then again, I'm the same way with her I am with Twilight: it's definitely not my cup of tea but obviously there's an audience for it. After all, many girls/women have fantasies about being dominated by aggressive, sexy men and whatnot, and there's the "passionate love that knows no boundaries" factor as well. The key is to know that all this is just a fantasy.

Ah, I know. I spent one summer eating up some commercial shoujo smut-fests that's aimed at the junior high crowd. None of it was the sort that would ever make it to best sellers were it ever compiled into volumes (Mayu aside, considering how popular and prolific she is), but there's certainly a market for it. It's not the stuff that I would bother hold up to literary criticism, seeing it's the equivalent of romance novel (of which I had consumed when I was evidently too young to, only to wander away from when I lost interest).
