Honestly, even a lot of meats, fruits, and veggies are a bit worse than they used to be, on average, due to modern farming and agricultural practices. Plus shit like injecting the meat with water so the store can effectively charge you for more meat than you're actually buying.

Not all of it is avoidable ofc. Some of the stuff we do to produce to make it viable to ship long-distance, for instance, is pretty much necessary if we want to have access to those items year-round. But a lot of it is just yet more profit maximizing at work.

And in all likelihood produce in particular is in for a bumpy ride now that weather patterns are getting less and less consistent, and drought is becoming an increasing issue. :/
