I'm watching 'Tell Them You Love Me'
(Anonymous) 2024-06-22 01:40 am (UTC)(link)It's sort of hammering home to me that some people simply do not possess the ability to critically assess their own actions, and to consider how those actions might impact or come across to others. (Anonymous) 2024-06-22 02:27 am (UTC)(link)It's a hard lesson for sure. There's always this hope that people can reflect and change, but some really can't.

And my fucking gods, the way these people treat disability.
It's so clear that she and her mother have contempt who are of lesser intelligence than them, so the only way they can imagine that cognitively disabled people possess dignity is to pretend that they aren't actually cognitively disabled. "Acceptance?" C'mon! You know what acceptance would entail? Recognizing when someone truly lacks intellectual and cognitive ability, but viewing them as worthy and fully human, anyway. Saying, "oh no, they're actually just like me, and it's my job to guide them out of the prison of their bodies" is not acceptance; it's groping for a way to make disabled people more palatable to you.
Fuck, this is making me so mad. I need to go watch something light now.
