(Anonymous) 2024-06-26 05:56 am (UTC)(link)I find a lot of the self-deprecating stuff really off-putting. Like, the author is signaling for people to reassure to them that they're good.
I tend to believe more in the "let the work speak for itself" approach.
So it can get annoying to see fics with the "this is my first fic sorry"/"I'm a bad writer, sorry for this bad fic" comments from the author get engagement. Because I do believe such comments can often prompt readers to engage more.
Call me a jealous writer, I am!!
I put in a lot of effort into my works and I don't go fishing for engagement/praise by telling people that I'm insecure about my works. Not saying I expect any engagement, but fucking he'll it can get really discouraging.
