I think we’re saying similar things from opposite sides. And yes, you’re right in that it’s gotten worse and when I responded, I conflated your comment with some others and attitudes I’ve run into recently. I’m sorry for that.

The 90s weren’t free of fascism. That was actually when it took hold. It HAS spread since then and gotten worse. But my experience is that Americans are unaware of it and think what is happening in America now is a first since the end of WWII. So I was answering as if arguing against that. Mainly because that was my point in the first place: there was alarm around the world about the rise of fascism through the 90s and OP’s secret is wrong.
