There's a certain amount of competative behaviour where cosplay is concerned whether intentionally done or not. While I personally don't care if my friends cosplay the same characters I do ... I do understand the reasoning behind this secret. It's not egotistical. It's cosplay and no matter how much you try to not be judgemental, it's going to happen. If someone's not comfortable with that, then they probably shouldn't cosplay.
