1. Any fandom you get into would require at least some money to obtain the materials of which you are (or will become) a fan of. Anime, manga, videogames...Barring piracy online and illegal bootlegs, it is to be expected that you, the fan, will be buying the volumes of manga/DVDs of anime/each videogame as they come out, because this in turn shows the creators that there is an interest and not to mention funds them for creating more. If everyone just read scanlations/watched episodes on youtube then nothing new would come out, because the creators would see that noone was buying their work, and would stop.
