I’ve been married almost 20 years but I can easily see why you feel this way. I think some of the more critical replies do have a grain of truth about your own choices and communication but it’s weird that so many FSers think guys like this are rare. We’ve had a lot of younger couples move into our neighborhood the last few years and at least half of the guys under 40 are like this.

See, this is bizarre for me to hear because the only men I know who are like that are in their 60s and up and pretty much no one likes them for very understandable reasons.

I have no idea if any of them are cheaters but I wouldn’t describe any of my older neighbors as lazy sexist manchildren. If they’re sexist, they hide it. They’re definitely not lazy or manchildren or assholes. Age range is 56 to 92.

Ok, ONE is an asshole. But by all accounts he was an asshole as a child, too. The lady across the street was his teacher and the woman four doors down was his classmate from kindergarten through graduation.

You will never see any of the under 35 doing any kind of yard work or maintenance except for one guy. And everyone has a three day weekend and a ten minute commute to work so it isn’t like they’re burnt out. I’d honestly classify all of them as lazy except that one guy. But for the other descriptors, I’d say those only apply to half. Again, I have no idea if any of them are cheaters so I’ve left that out of the equation.

Huh? Are you saying that under-35 women everywhere routinely do all kinds of yard work and maintenance (lol no??) and the men won't help for some reason? Are you saying that yard work supposed to naturally be the man's job because he's a man? What? How did this wrap back around to "lazy if you don't do traditional gender roles"?

“Everywhere” LOL Super bad faith reading because this is clearly about one neighborhood.
And no, it isn’t about traditional gender roles. These are people I know and the wives complain that their husbands are lazy. Some of the wives do yard work and some of the couples use a service, which is another thing the wives complain about. We live in an old subdivision with 1 acre lots and a yard service costs about $300 per visit. Most of the wives in those households do complain about it because they recognize that they aren’t building any kind of savings for later in their lives.

Okay, but what are they doing in the house?

I'm a married woman who's closer to 40 than 30, but I like doing yard work -- so you'd see me outside more than you'd see my husband. However, he does a ton of work in the house, including being the primary person to cook dinner. Are you sure these guys are lazy, just because they're not doing one particular traditionally manly thing? Or could they be pulling their weight in some other way?

According to the wives: they aren’t doing anything but playing video games or watching TV. These are people I actually know and the wives complain about their lazy husbands.
