I’m getting in shape! I joined one of those Conqueror challenges where you get a medal for completing it and it’s really motivating for me. I just get on my walking pad for 30 minutes twice a day and watch movies on my iPad that I have on a little stand in front of me.

I also bit the bullet and got a compact rowing machine. It isn’t high end but still pretty pricey but I enjoy rowing machines and really need to work my upper body and core.

I’ve been doing some low weight training with free weights and resistance bands. And I have a compact stair machine and a step platform on order. The corner of my bedroom is going to be very cramped but I’m finally building a tiny home gym just of the things I can and will use. And it all cost less then one year of a gym membership (which is out of the question anyway because I’m so allergic to some stuff that even smelling it in someone’s sweat will trigger full blown anaphylaxis).

I haven’t lost any weight because I’m also building muscle but my clothes are looser and I can tell in our narrow hallways that I’m physically smaller. I put on so much weight when I got sick and it’s been a constant source of stress for me. It’s only recently that exercising became an option thanks to a high risk treatment I started in February. I’m just ridiculously excited to be able to do something about it finally!

That's awesome! I put on a lot of weight in the past several years due to several factors and I am finally digging myself out of a depression pit and starting to eat right and work out. I found a free compact folding exercise bike online and I've been doing that 3x a week - I just put on a show and bike for 30mins or so. I was actually looking at rowing machines! I really like the idea of them but am on the fence if I'd use it enough to justify the cost and space it would take up in my small room.

I can't get into the weight training for some reason. I really want to, but it's just so boring to me. I'm actually thinking of hiring a personal trainer 2 or 3 times a week to get me into the habit, because I will bow out on my own but as soon as someone else (or money) is involved I know I'll commit to actually doing it.

AYRT
That’s awesome about your bike! And congrats on digging yourself out, that’s the hardest thing anyone can do.

I feel ya on the weights, I struggle to make myself use them. They have practical application in my life so I just keep forcing myself.

They have some good compact and even foldable rowers on the market. I didn’t go with foldable because I know I’m lazy and won’t unfold and use it. I had trouble finding a compact that would fit me because I’m so heavy and I also have very long legs. So there are things out there but they might not be a good fit for you. I ended up going with one of the priciest cheap models or maybe the cheapest of the mid tier models. It’s wood, uses water resistance, can support more than 100lbs over my weight (and has reviews from people who weigh 20lbs more than me), and has a long enough rail for me. It was $375 and I’d link you to it on Amazon but I got the last one and it’s currently delisted.

ayrt - $375 for wood and water seems like a great price! I have actually been looking for a water resistance one. Its good to know they're out there, I'll keep my eye out.
