Who's the daughter of the two? Is the daughter adopted? Because they look like two unrelated YA friends.

For anyone wondering the same: the daughter is not adopted, the dad is just black. And it's on purpose that they seem close in age as the mom got pregnant as a teen and due to an abusive childhood before that never really got to be a teenager, which results in her being rather immature now as an adult.
